Investigation of Biomass Gasification in a Fluidized Bed

  • The process of biomass gasification is becoming a significant subject of developmental projects in energetic and process technology. Biomass is considered to be renewable and "CO2-neutral fuel, which gasification leads to production of gas that can be utilized for different purposes. A project dealing with the gasification of bio mass (wood, corn cobs), as a renewable, easily associable and cheap reactant, was conducted as a part of National Energy Efficiency Program. The aim of the project is to formulate and construct pilot facility for biomass gasification in a fluidized bed of inert material, as abases for a broader industrial application of this technology. Biomass gasification was investigated experimentally and theoretically, in order to determine the product composition, the process kinetics, and the optimal process conditions. The product composition and the process kinetics are determined experimentally, in the laboratory fluidized bed gasified. The mathematical model of gasification includes chemical-kinetics characterization, the energy and mass balances of the process, and the hydrodynamic character is tics of the fluidized-bed reactor. Obtained results can be used for optimization of bio mass gasification process, for getting qualitatively and quantitatively optimal gas product yield.
