Numerical calculation and measurement of the coal powder distribution in burner's channels with louvers and analysis of related theoretical combustion temperatures on TPP 'Nikola Tesla'-A6 boilers

  • A series of recent tests on plants of Electric Power Industry of Serbia, suggest that the problem of low efficiency on TPP 'Nikola Tesla'-A6 (TENT) boilers, due to high temperature flue gases i.e. non-functioning of the regenerative feed water heaters of the high pressure, can effectively be solved by the reorganization of the combustion process in the furnace, which is successfully implemented using the so-called louvers for the distribution of coal powder and oxidation mixture along height of the mill channel. In order to perform more comprehensive analysis of the effect of louvers in the mill channel, which does not require large expenditures, in the Laboratory for Thermal Engineering and Energy of the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences developed a detailed procedure for the numerical simulation based on the 2-D CFD commercial models of turbulent, two-phase flow with Lagrangian particle tracking approach. The paper deals with comparison of measurement results with the results of numerical simulations of coal powder and oxidation mixture distribution in the mill channel of TENT boilers in which are embedded devices for the fuel redistribution. In addition, in the paper has been suggested the procedure for calculating the combustion products composition and the theoretical combustion temperature of coal powder in the oxidation mixture atmosphere. Using this model and the results of numerical simulation of coal powder distribution, have given the analysis of temperature distribution along the height of the boiler burners, which is important information for the application of regenerative feed water heaters of the high pressure and therefore increase the efficiency of the block.
