Determination of the thermal conductivity of solid low conductive materials using the guarded hot plate method in the Vinča Institute of nuclear sciences

  • In this paper, the guarded hot plate method for thermal conductivity measurements of poorly conductive solid materials is described. It contains a detail description of the apparatus and experimental procedure used in the Laboratory for Thermal Engineering and Energy of the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences, as well as a detail analysis of the measurement uncertainty. For demonstration purpose, an example of thermal conductivity measurement of a standard reference material with thermal conductivity of 1 W/mK at room temperature is given.
