Application of heat integration analysis for heat exchange network retro fit design in the beet sugar process

  • Sugar beet process needs great deal of heat energy. In order to reduce this utilities the evaporator and the heating systems should be retrofited. Thermodynamic analysis called Pinch Technology is often used for Heat Exchange Network analysis and design. The method is based on integrated hot and cold streams, predicts the theorethical maximum possible recovery for a given value of DT, where DT is the minimum heat approach in any heat exchanger in the network. This method has been also used for retrofit design in a sugar beet industry. In this work the analysis of the present situation in Sugar factory Crvenka has been done adopting Pinch Technology. The goal of this analysis was to find solution which will re duce the energy consumption from 1.3 to 1.0 MJ/kg beet with minimum capital investment.
