Large steam boiler furnaces issues in burning low calorific value and variable mineral composition coals

  • Since in last three decades practically no investments in construction of new thermal blocks on region of Eastern Europe energetic community has been done, in order to preserve energy production, more and more planning and practical implementation in field of revitalization of existing thermal power plant facilities have been carried out. Also, more and more low quality coals are in use, which demands certain reconstructions and modernizations of existing steam boiler furnaces in order to improve and provide demanding level of burning economics and efficiency. Inside this paper, parameters affecting burning process and economics and reliability of power plant exploitation are defined. Special accent was put on influences of physical and chemical properties of fuel and air, as well as construction characteristics of burners and devices for fuel preparation. Special accent was also given to homogenization of coal quality during its digging out process.
