SOx and NOx emission reduction from power stations by combined usage of coal gasification and coal combustion

  • Supposed technology for electricity production with reduced emissions of SOX and NOX, by combined application of coal gasification and coal combustion is described in the paper. Coal gasification would be applied as a chemical method for organic sulfur removal. NOX reduction emission would be done by an appropriate organization of product gas and gasified coal particles combustion. Efficiency of sulfur removal from pulverized lignite "Kolubara" was investigated experimentally. Coal gasification experiment was carried out for constant both coal through-put 4.3 kg/h and H2O/coal ratio 0.426 kg/kg. Excess oxygen coefficient was varied through three values: 0.54, 0.69 and 0.86. Values from 49.15% to 69.38% of organic sulfur removal were achieved. Sulfate sulfur concentration increased with an increase in level of coal oxidation. Carbon conversion values were from 41.58 to 70.96%.
